Sample Application Fee Waiver

Khi nộp đơn học cao học ở Mĩ, thường bạn sẽ phải nộp lệ phí tầm $75-$100 mỗi chương trình. Một vài chương trình có quy định rõ ràng về việc xin miễn lệ phí nộp hồ sơ (v.d. Cornell), nhiều chương trình khác lại không, nhưng với chương trình nào thì bạn vẫn có thể nộp đơn xin miễn lệ phí (application fee waiver), đặc biệt là với những chương trình tiến sĩ (because you expect to get paid while doing your PhD!). Cùng lắm thì họ vẫn bắt bạn nộp phí thôi, lá thư xin waiver này không có ảnh hưởng gì đến hồ sơ của bạn cả.

Trong thư này bạn cần đưa ra một lí do ngắn gọn giải thích phí nộp đơn này gây ra khó khăn tài chính cho bạn như thế nào (v.d. điều kiện kinh tế của bạn ở Việt Nam rất hạn chế).

Sau đây là một lá thư mẫu bạn có thể chỉnh sửa cho phù hợp với hồ sơ của bạn:

Dear Admission Committee,

I am writing to formally request an application fee waiver to pursue my Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of New Hampshire.

I am an international student from Viet Nam, and my family’s financial situation has been severely impacted by the recent economic downturn and the COVID-19 pandemic. I kindly request your consideration for a fee waiver due to my current financial challenges.

I have chosen the UNH because of its outstanding reputation in research. I have been actively involved in several community service projects and have excelled academically, earning 3.8 GPA and ranking #6 in my class. I am confident that my academic background, community involvement, and passion for Applied Mathematics make me a strong candidate for this UNH program.

Thank you for considering my request, and I look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities and potential as a student at University of New Hampshire.
